AAAID Participates in the Inauguration of the Largest Veterinary Vaccine Manufacturing Facility in Egypt, Middle East, and Africa

The Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) participated in the official inauguration of the newly expanded of Middle East for Vaccines (MEVAC) facility — a pioneering manufacturer of veterinary vaccines — located in New Salhia City, Sharqia Governorate, Arab Republic of Egypt. June 12, 2025

AAAID was represented at the event by H.E. Dr. Obaid Saif Hamad Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Board of AAAID, and Mr. Ayman El Henawy, Director of Communication and International Relations. The inauguration was officiated by H.E. Engineer Hazem Al Ashmouni, Governor of Sharqia, with the presence of several distinguished guests, including Prof. Dr. Tarek Suleiman, Head of the Livestock and Poultry Development Sector (representing the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation); Dr. Hamed Moussa Al-Aqnas, Chairman of the General Organization for Veterinary Services; Dr. Amr Kandil, Deputy Minister of Health and Population; Major General Yasser Abbas, Deputy CEO of the General Authority for Investment (representing the Minister of Investment); Dr. Tamer El-Hossieny, Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority; Dr. Chris Nelson, President of global biotech firm Kemin Industries; alongside the Ambassador of Rwanda, representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and the World Health Organization, and over 40 international delegations of prominent investors, experts, and institutional leaders.

AAAID’s participation underscores its dedication to supporting pioneering projects that advance Arab integration and sustainable food security, while highlighting the significance of strategic partnerships across the public and private sectors in the fields of vaccine production, innovation, and scientific research.

The event marked the launch of MEVAC’s third industrial complex, the largest veterinary vaccine manufacturing plant in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa, with a production capacity exceeding 12 billion doses annually. The ceremony also included the inauguration of the company’s new Research, Development, and Quality Excellence Center, featuring state-of-the-art laboratories, including BSL-2 and BSL-3 facilities. The new center positions the company as a regional hub for innovation and scientific excellence in this vital sector.

Commenting on the occasion, H.E. Dr. Obaid Saif Al Zaabi emphasized that AAAID’s participation reflects its strategic commitment to supporting high-value projects related to food security. “The MEVAC complex is a distinguished scientific and industrial milestone that brings real and strategic value to the veterinary pharmaceutical industry in Egypt. It enhances the region’s ability to meet local and global demand for veterinary vaccines, with positive impact on livestock health, food production efficiency, and overall quality of life,” he said.

He added: “We strongly support the expansion of bio-industries connected to food security, and we back all efforts aimed at strengthening research and manufacturing in this crucial sector. These initiatives contribute meaningfully to comprehensive economic development across the Arab world and reinforce sustainability in the food system through innovation and impactful partnerships.”
