The Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID), in collaboration with Peritus Farm Agribusiness Consultancy, convened a specialized virtual workshop titled “Resilient Livestock Systems: Strategic Pathways Toward Climate-Smart and Sustainable Productivity” on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The event brought together a distinguished group of international experts and specialists in livestock production, agricultural sustainability, and emerging technologies.
The workshop highlighted the growing challenges facing the livestock sector amid accelerating climate change, while examining global best practices and innovative solutions aimed at developing more efficient, adaptable, and environmentally sustainable production systems.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Talal Wishah, Director of Direct Investment at AAAID, emphasized that increasing climate variability and mounting pressure on natural resources underscore the urgent need to adopt more resilient and efficient livestock production models. He stressed that innovation and modern technologies are essential pillars for enhancing food security and ensuring the long-term sustainability of agricultural resources.
He further noted that AAAID is increasingly focused on advanced solutions in resource management, feed system optimization, and genetic improvement, all of which contribute to strengthening sector resilience and improving productivity. He also highlighted that, as AAAID marks its Golden Jubilee, it continues to expand strategic partnerships with the private sector and international institutions to facilitate knowledge transfer and adopt global best practices in support of sustainable agricultural development across the Arab region.
The workshop featured contributions from several leading experts, including Dr. Ahmed Salah, Remote Sensing and Water Management Specialist; Dr. Fanie Steyn, Ruminant Production Specialist; and Mr. Ibrahim Malas, Agribusiness Consultant – Livestock Production Systems Specialist. The session was moderated by Eng. Ammar Aljumaili, Project Manager at AAAID.
Discussions focused on key thematic areas, including smart land and feed management, securing feed resources under climate stress, and genetic development strategies to enhance livestock productivity and sustainability. Participants also examined the role of advanced technologies—particularly remote sensing and data analytics—in improving decision-making and optimizing natural resource management.
The workshop underscored the importance of strengthening regional and international cooperation, expanding knowledge exchange, and accelerating the transition toward climate-smart agricultural practices. Such efforts, participants agreed, are essential to reinforcing food security and advancing sustainable agricultural development across the Arab region.
The initiative reflects AAAID’s broader strategy to promote innovation, facilitate knowledge transfer, and adopt sustainable solutions in food security and agricultural development, in line with emerging global challenges and the need to enhance the resilience and sustainability of Arab food systems.
