As part of its ongoing oversight of its investment portfolio and engagement with its investee companies, Dr. Abdelilah Belatik, Executive Director of Investment Sector at the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID), conducted a working visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 12–13 September 2026, covering a number of projects operated by Arabian Cooperative Company in Asir, in the city of Abha.
During the company’s regular Board of Directors meeting at its headquarters in Abha, Dr. Belatik reviewed the progress of a number of the company’s production projects, including the hatchery project in Tathleeth Governorate, the slaughterhouse and meat processing plant, and associated projects. The review also covered recent developments across these projects, as well as the company’s expansion plans and efforts to enhance operational efficiency.
The visit included a field tour of the slaughterhouse, meat processing plant and associated projects, covering both completed projects and those currently under implementation. Dr. Belatik also reviewed the results of the latest expansion of the company’s hatchery project and the adoption of modern automation systems and technologies. The company’s plans to progressively increase its production capacity to approximately 550,000 birds per day by 2027 were also reviewed, supporting greater operational efficiency and contributing to the Kingdom’s food security objectives.
The visit forms part of AAAID’s approach to active investment oversight and strengthened portfolio governance, with a focus on monitoring the operational performance and investment developments of its investee companies. Through this approach, AAAID seeks to strengthen the sustainable economic and development value generated by its investments.
The engagement also underscored the strategic importance of investment in food security and livestock value chains, including the adoption of modern technologies and automation to enhance productivity and operational efficiency, alongside continued development of production, processing and related infrastructure.
The visit further provided an opportunity to review the company’s priorities and growth plans for the next phase, and to strengthen coordination between AAAID and the company’s management in support of operational sustainability and the achievement of its operational and investment objectives.
Through the ongoing oversight of its investment portfolio, AAAID continues to focus on maximizing the economic and development impact of its investments in food-security-related sectors, while supporting its investee companies in developing their operations, enhancing efficiency and creating long-term value for shareholders and beneficiaries.
The visit reflects AAAID’s continued commitment to working with its investee companies to develop productive projects capable of sustainable growth and expansion, while strengthening their contribution to more efficient and sustainable food systems across the Arab region.
