Vegetable and Fruit Production Research Station (Umm Dom)

Extensive applied research experiments since 2000 have included three main areas: testing new varieties of grain and vegetable crops, testing planting dates and effects of fertilizer addition, and testing irrigation using magnetized water on vegetables and grains.

Vegetable Variety Experiments

Experiment Target
Comparative differences between seedling planting and direct seed cultivation The experiment studied the comparative benefits of planting seedlings versus seeds on the productivity and quality of different varieties of tomato crops (Peto111, UC82, and Strain B).
Response of hybrid tomato varieties The experiment studied the growth and yield of hybrid tomato varieties (GS-12, VT-737, and FA-38) in winter season conditions in the Khartoum area, Sudan.
Comparison of tomato varieties The experiment compared tomato varieties (Peto86, Peto111, Castle Rock, UC82, and Rio Grande) for winter season agriculture.
Effect of Galia melon seed soaking prior to planting The experiment studied the effect that soaking the seeds of Galia melon in a diluted solution of cobalt for two days prior to plant would have on the yield and quality of fruit and the plant’s resistance to sudden wilt disease.
Effect of planting density on Galia melon This experiment studied the effect of planting density on the productivity and quality of Galia melon. Density: 12,000, 9,000, 6,000 plants/acre.
Comparison between direct seeding and seedling planting in sweet fennel The experiment compared the benefits of direct seed cultivation and seedling planting on the productivity and quality of sweet fennel crop yields.
Comparison of cucumber varieties This study compared cucumber varieties (Beta Alfa/hybrid, Fresco and Highmark/hybrid) for agriculture in winter seasons.
Effect of variety and date of planting on broccoli yield The experiment was conducted to study the effect of variety and planting dates on the productivity and quality of broccoli yield under the environmental conditions of Khartoum, Sudan. Varieties studied: MAAA2 and MAAA1.
Effect of planting dates on head lettuce The experiment studied the effect of different planting dates for the winter season on the productivity and quality of head lettuce under the environmental conditions in Sudan.
Effect of variety and planting date on Egyptian bean crops The experiment studied the effect of variety and date of planting on the productivity and quality of the Egyptian bean crop.

Grain Crop Experiments

Experiment Target
Comparison of maize varieties (10 hybrid + 2 open pollination): The experiment was conducted to compare the performance of the following maize varieties: Tuber 1, Tuber 2 + Panar 6568, Panar 6480, High corn 75, Pacific 8222, Pacific 8288, Pacific 8327, Pacific 8362, Pacific 8450, Garst 8527W, and Garst 8966.
Response of three maize hybrids to micronutrient spraying This experiment studied the effect of microfertilization on the productivity of three maize hybrids, namely Panar 6568, Panar 6480, and High corn 75.
Comparison of different planting distances, density and varieties This study compared the effects of variety, agriculture distances and the number of seeds per planting on the productivity of two varieties, namely Kiriz and Medani.
Response of peanut crop (Sodiri) to iron and sulfur treatments The experiment studied the effects of sulfur and iron on the productivity of the Sodiri variety of peanut.
Effect of variety, spacing and fertilization on the productivity of peanuts The experiment studied the effects of variety, plant spacing and fertilization on the productivity of two peanut varieties, namely Kiriz and Medani.
Response of peanut crop to gypsum treatment The experiment studied the effect of gypsum on the quantity and quality of the Sodiri variety of peanut crop.
Comparison of two varieties of sesame crop in three plant density conditions The experiment studied the effect of plant variety and density on two sesame varieties, namely Promo and Giza32.
Effect of chemical fertilization and plant density on Giza 32 sesame variety The experiment studied the effects of plant variety, plant density and fertilization on the Giza32 variety of sesame crop.
Effect of plant variety and density on sunflower crop yields The experiment was conducted to study the effects of plant variety and spacing on the productivity of two varieties of sunflowers, namely Panar 7392 and Hysun 33.
Effect of planting dates on soybean crop yields The experiment studied the effects of planting dates on soybean productivity in the Giza42 variety.
